The Importance of Obedience
From the very beginning, God has given specific instructions to man and has expected them to be followed. Do you believe that God meant what He said when He gave the following instructions within the Old Testament?
Genesis 2:17 To Adam and Eve: “…but of the tree of knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Genesis 19:17 To Lot’s wife: “…look not behind you…”
Genesis 6:14 To Noah: “Make yourself an ark of gopher wood; make rooms in it and cover it…”
Genesis 22:2 To Abraham: “Take now your son…Isaac, whom you love, and go…and offer him as a burnt offering”.
You know God expects obedience. The Bible records very vividly the consequences of not following God’s instructions. The question that begs for an answer from us is, “Do we believe God means what He says when He gives us instructions to be followed today?”
Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
Luke 6:46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord, and not do the things which I say?
Hebrews 5:9 “And having been perfected, he became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey him”.
John 14:15 “If you love me, keep my commandments.”
II Thessalonians 1:7-9 “…when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Your salvation depends on you understanding that God means what He says. God demands obedience or we must face the consequences. Only in obedience to His commands, do you then have eternal life with Him in heaven.
